Who Are We?

RESQIUM 2026 Disaster Awareness Summit is a multi-stakeholder and multidisciplinary organization organized by the Maltepe University Search and Rescue Club, aimed at increasing disaster awareness, developing volunteer search and rescue capacity, and strengthening community resilience.

Maltepe University Search and Rescue Club is a volunteer student organization founded in response to the needs arising after the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. Club members gain both theoretical knowledge and field experience through trainings in accordance with AFAD and INSARAG standards; and carry out social responsibility projects in various areas such as earthquake zones, village schools, container cities, and orphanages. Libraries established in memory of students who lost their lives in the earthquake and various support activities are among these activities.

This structure operates in coordination with Maltepe University Search and Rescue (MUSAR). MUSAR is a university-based search and rescue organization that includes academics, university staff, active students, and alumni. Students active in the Search and Rescue Club can continue to contribute to disaster preparedness and response capacity by continuing their activities within MUSAR after graduation.

In addition to technical search and rescue activities, the club aims to develop the knowledge and skills of team members in crisis management and disaster response by adopting an interdisciplinary approach in the fields of psychology, first aid, and social responsibility. Trainings and events are planned in cooperation with academics, experts, and non-governmental organizations.

The knowledge and field experience gained through this continuity and cooperation between the Maltepe University Search and Rescue Club and MUSAR form an important foundation in the organization of RESQIUM; and strengthen knowledge sharing in the field of disaster preparedness and community resilience.

About Organization

RESQIUM 2026 Disaster Awareness Summit is organized to contribute to strengthening corporate capacity in the field of disaster management and to create a multi-stakeholder interaction ground.

The summit is planned and conducted by Maltepe University SAR Club. The organization process is structured in line with the principles of corporate responsibility, transparency, and sustainability.

Approach

RESQIUM does not limit disaster processes only to the response phase. It adopts a holistic approach that evaluates risk reduction, preparedness, coordination, and recovery dimensions together.

Accordingly, the summit aims to establish a sustainable link between knowledge production and the application field.
